Building tomorrow’s innovators: Micron International Academy completes second cohort

Manuela Seminara | October 2025

Five months. Four continents. One mission: To shape the next generation of global semiconductor leaders.

The second cohort of the Micron International Academy completed their studies in July 2025 with a closing ceremony at the University of Naples Federico II. Held at one of Europe’s only university campuses to host a full ecosystem of industry-backed academies — including Micron, Cisco, Apple and others — the program brought together around 25 emerging engineers from around the world, including Singapore, India, the United States, Taiwan and Europe. For over five months, these students were immersed in a curriculum designed by both university professors and Micron professionals, with equal emphasis on theory and application, mentorship and mastery.

A curriculum rooted in innovation

The Academy’s blended format — equally split between professor-led and Micron-led sessions — offered students a rare dual perspective: academic rigor combined with real-world industry insight. With each new cohort, the curriculum continues to evolve, to include emerging topics of strategic relevance to Micron, such as memory as a key enabler for AI and product-related cybersecurity. This reflects a deliberate effort to align training with the technologies shaping the future — equipping students with both foundational knowledge and forward-looking capabilities.

In addition to deep technical training in embedded memory systems and systems design, students received personalized mentoring from Micron’s EMEA Talent Acquisition team, focusing on professional development, soft skills and career readiness.

“Micron International Academy is more than a learning experience,” said Micron Vice President of Global Culture & Workforce Fran Dillard. “Students are empowered to dive deeply into the memory system world while gaining mentors and building relationships with global innovators to strengthen their technical skills and power their careers.”

Celebrating global talent and local impact

Learning in action.

The closing ceremony brought together leaders from across the academic and Micron community, including Professor Antonio Strollo, scientific director of the University of Naples Federico II; Professor Domenico Accardo, director of CESMA; Professor Giorgio Ventre, as well as Massimo Iaculo, site leader for Micron Arzano. The event celebrated not just the program’s milestones, but also the people driving it forward, faculty, mentors and most of all, the students.

Two outstanding students, Giuseppe Riccone and Zeyad Gharaf, were recognized for their dedication, growth and excellence throughout the program. Both are set to continue their journeys through two-week international experiences at Micron sites in the coming months.

These next steps highlight the Academy’s evolving mission: To train high-potential students and activate them within Micron’s global network.

Two people received internships, and one participant was hired by Micron in the first cohort. In the second cohort, one participant has started their internship, and seven potential candidates (among Micron interns and new college graduates) are undergoing interviews across Singapore and Italy, transforming classroom lessons into global career momentum.

Looking ahead: The next chapter begins

Selections for the third cohort of the Academy were finalized in late July, and the next program will launch in January 2026. With applications growing year over year, the Academy is quickly becoming a model for how Micron can identify, invest in and retain top early-career talent across borders.

As plans emerge for sister academies in other regions, creating potential for cross-regional exchanges, the long-term vision is clear: Build a globally distributed talent pipeline anchored in Micron values, shared knowledge and inclusive opportunity.
