Welcome to New York: Micron selects an office location as megafab progresses

Scott Gatzemeier | September 2024

Since we first announced in 2022 that Clay had been chosen as the site of our leading-edge memory megafab, we’ve been popping up across Central New York – from town halls, to Chip Camps at local schools, to a museum exhibit that’s been visited by thousands of children, families and even the President of the United States.

Now, Micron is getting ready to appear in a new location: the Syracuse skyline.

All about our office

Micron will be setting up shop inside Downtown Syracuse’s One Lincoln Center on West Fayette Street – and soon, adding our logo atop the building that will be seen by New Yorkers entering the city.

Micron’s planned office space in One Lincoln Center will help house local Procurement and Facilities Construction teams, as well as Operations, Government and Public Affairs, and People team members in the years ahead. Micron’s office will also include a street-level space for a community welcome and recruitment center. That space will serve as the hub for people from across the region to drop in to learn more about the project and to access recruiting resources as we build up our local workforce.

The interior spaces will be designed and outfitted to fit Micron’s needs. We’re thrilled to be partnering with E. Smith Contractors, a local Black owned business who shares our commitment to partnering with New York Minority, Women and Veteran-owned Business Enterprises (MWVBEs) as a part of our expansion efforts in New York. More information on an official opening will be released as the space gets move-in-ready ahead of next year.

More than a space for team members

Micron’s presence in the City of Syracuse is about much more than finding ample space for our teams’ needs a short drive from the White Pine Commerce Park project site in Clay. Working closely with many local officials and institutions, Micron has seen that Downtown is an ideal hub at the core of Central New York for collaboration on community initiatives, building out the local supply chain and workforce development.

Last year, Micron started hiring full-time positions locally. From roles in facilities construction and environmental compliance to supplier diversity and external affairs, we are building a local team that will help maximize the potential – and benefits – of the Clay project.

Micron is now offering a variety of opportunities to work on the Central New York project as part of the Facilities Construction and Procurement teams. More on those opportunities can be found at micron.com/about/careers.

Filling out our new office space with skilled people who not only can help drive our Central New York operations forward, but who can also serve as Micron ambassadors, is just a first step. There’s much more to come in the years ahead as we prepare to start producing leading-edge memory chips that will power the world’s next great innovations.

“Today marks a major milestone for Micron making its home in Central NY. Micron’s logo will soon shine on the historic Syracuse skyline with its new offices opening at One Lincoln Center next to Armory Square,” said Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. “Micron will be at the very heart of Syracuse’s renaissance downtown. When I wrote my CHIPS & Science Law it is days like this I envisioned, with new companies locating manufacturing and management Upstate. With Micron beaming atop Syracuse’s One Lincoln Center, it is becoming clearer by the day that the sky is the limit for growth in Central NY, and Syracuse’s future will shine brightly for all to see.”

“New York celebrates Micron’s selection of office space in downtown Syracuse — it is an important milestone that shows the momentum behind our positive, productive partnership,” said New York Governor Kathy Hochul. “Together we are fortifying domestic chip production, strengthening the semiconductor industry, delivering good-paying jobs, and expanding economic opportunity in Central New York for decades to come.

“The momentum and progress happening in our community is undeniable thanks to the historic investment being made by Micron. With the announcement today that they have selected One Lincoln Center in downtown Syracuse as the home of their new office space, along with the addition of their logo atop the building, our community will soon have a visible reminder that Onondaga County and Central New York is now poised to become the hub for semiconductor memory technology in the county and the world,” said Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon. “Just as important, this planned office space includes a welcome and recruitment center which will provide members of our community with the opportunity to learn more about this historic project and the various way they can seize upon this unique opportunity. Thank you to Micron and their team for their unwavering commitment to Onondaga County and Central New York.”

“I’m honored and excited to welcome Micron to downtown Syracuse. Having members of the Micron team downtown every day will add energy to the center of our city and be a point of pride for all of Syracuse and Onondaga County,” said Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh. “The company’s decision reflects downtown Syracuse’s important role as the center of growth for our region and the many attractions that make it a great place to live, work and play. I thank Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra and the entire Micron team for choosing downtown Syracuse and for continuing the momentum on their transformational mega fab semiconductor plant in our community.”
