Micron salutes our women engineers this International Women in Engineering Day. These women contribute their knowledge and expertise in all departments from IT to technology development. In fiscal year 2020, 136 women were named as inventors on the company’s original patent application fillings. We are proud of our inventors, data scientists, engineers and leaders. Yet we still want to see more women in the industry.
We have been raising — and will continue to raise — the profile of women in engineering within the semiconductor industry. Increased representation of underrepresented groups is one of our six FY21 commitments to diversity, equality and inclusion (DEI). Part of this commitment is to recruit more women into engineering roles.
Our global women’s mentoring program is one way we are increasing representation. This year, Micron piloted the program and mentored 101 female students from 11 countries and 35 universities. We want to inspire the young women who will engineer the future of technology. Programs like this one will increase the pipeline of female applicants, not just at Micron but across our industry.
The Micron Women’s Leadership Network (MWLN) is an employee-led and volunteer-driven group focused on strengthening the leadership, engagement and voices of women at Micron. It is Micron’s first and one of our largest employee resource groups, with more than 4,000 members. This community of women and allies fosters mentorship opportunities across the company, including the Women Innovate (WIN) program that provides hands-on innovation experience towards its mission of increasing female inventor participation and fostering an inclusive innovation culture.
Thank you to all the female engineers across the globe at Micron. You are inspiring and deserve a happy International Women in Engineering Day.
