It’s no secret to team members that Micron is a great place to work. And in Singapore, it’s officially one of the best.
Micron’s ranking of 9 on the 2019 Singapore Best Workplaces list was announced at a gala dinner on Nov. 6, attended by Senior Vice President of Human Resources April Arnzen, Corporate Vice President and Singapore Country Manager Chen Kok Sing, and 20 other team members. Awards are designated based on independent research and analysis by the Great Place to Work Institute.
This recognition reflects Micron Singapore’s ongoing investment in the development of our team members to foster a work environment that inspires creativity, leadership and collaboration.
“We care about our team members,” Chen said. “That means creating cutting-edge facilities, developing leaders to further support their teams, investing in programs to amplify team member engagement and retention, working on diversity and inclusion, and ensuring our team members have opportunities to give back in our community.”
This was a big year in Singapore, with one of the highlights being the opening of the Fab 10 expansion. This new facility positions Micron to deliver technologies of the future more effectively and further cements the company’s position as a market leader.
To attract and retain a diverse workforce in Singapore’s cultural melting pot, Micron works with universities and programs that yield high rates of women and underrepresented candidates, as Micron believes that the best innovation springs from team members’ diverse backgrounds. These candidates then begin their Micron experience with Talent Connect, Micron’s unique pre-onboarding program that was freshened up this year to give more than 300 new hires and their leaders an “Amazing Race”-like experience across Micron’s three Singapore sites.
“Being recognized as a ‘great place to work’ is an honor that reflects our values, culture, and — most of all — people,” said Arnzen. “Our team members recognize the authenticity of our values and culture, and they in turn shape both of these by being incredibly engaged. We are committed to ensure they feel supported inside and outside of work, while also supporting the communities and world around them.”
Being an integrated part of the community helps Micron team members connect with their surroundings, whether through volunteering, giving directly to charitable organizations and having Micron match their contributions, or partnering with the Ministry of Education to further STEM learning.
All of these initiatives led to 74% of participating team members reporting that Micron is a great place to work.
“We at Great Place love it that Micron leaders are deliberate about building and assimilating the culture of team and giving,” said Great Place to Work Managing Director Joni Ong. “For this and more, we are proud to rank Micron among the Singapore Best Workplaces for 2019!”
“With nearly 8,000 team members representing 30 countries, Micron Singapore is an example of how diverse backgrounds and experiences can come together and excel,” Bhatia said. “Being honored as the No. 9 Best Workplace in Singapore is recognition that we’ve created an environment where every team member is able to thrive.”
